It was a wet one. Pouring rain all day, biked over the legendary Legget Hill. Omg. Uphill for 5 miles. I am feeling it today. day 3 now. It’s the character building day… Wish me luck!
(photo is from Day 2!)
Yesterday, we completed the first day of 65 miles for the CimateRide. I had never ridden a bike that far before… And soon, I’ll be zipping out of my sleeping bag to do it again. My body (muscles) is feeling ok. Obviously a little tired, but I have a bit of a headache at the moment. Also, it is pouring rain outside, and I cringe at the idea that I could get sick (catch cold) or something. Anticipating the rain to come in the wee hours of morning, about 20 of us laid our sleeping bags out under a sheltered area that doubled as a church. So as I write this, I’m maying on the orange carpeted alter:)
We will be getting completely soaked on the ride today. It will be challenging. Also, we gave 2 big climbs today up to 1500 feet. The good thing, normally, about the climbs are the awesome downhill on the other side. Unfortunately though, when it’s raining, we’ll have to slow it down a bit.
It’s very cold and damp right now. It’s going to be a very long day…

ride #24. rockin’ it ;)
I have NO doubt in my mind that this @climateride is going to be a challenge. 65 miles a day. The most I’ve ridden in one “sitting” was 40. Luckily we break the day up into 3 sections, so i think i’ll be OK. Today I went riding alone north of Baltimore in the rolling and hilly country side. The hills are certainly getting easier with every ride!!! Here’s pushing myself:
distance: 26.07
time: 1h44m
avg. speed: 14.9
max speed: 35.33
I’m at 79% of my goal! Support the cause, yo! EVERY DOLLAR helps!

I’m off to ride again right now!
good lord. I just saw a bicycle / car accident happen RIGHT in front of my house. I was bringing out the recycling and saw the kid, about 12 yrs. old, on his bike cruise down the hill which T’s at my place. The mini-van’s visibility up the hill was low, i’m sure. The whole thing happened in slow motion… so weird. The kid rolled over the hood of the van, his glasses flew off, and the bike bounced several times landing feet from where I was standing. All I could do was repeat, “oh my god, oh my god, oh my god…”
I picked up his bike and glasses and handed them over to him, as he quickly got up on his feet. After the “are you ok?” I said, “You should wear a helmet you know…”. He nodded…
Fucking wear a helmet. Whether it’s biking, kayaking, street hockey - whatever. Helmets are cool. Want to be cool? Then wear one. A few years ago, a good friend of mine from college was struck in the head with a hockey puck (street hockey) traveling about 60 mph. Here is the letter she wrote about wearing a helmet: http://www.kellybuchanan.com/press/HockeyLetter.htm
I plan on biking tonight to the Bosley rehearsal… with my defenses and senses on high.
Cars: please share the road.
thanks, victoria
ride times from training #22 from Friday:
distance: 27.33
time: about 2 hrs (i think… not sure, somehow this one didn’t reset)
avg. speed: 13.01
max speed: 30.08
man… not feeling it today. either PMS is setting in hard core… or the rain and the traffic really got to me. Drivers: get off the effing phone…. and drive your vehicle. Doctor Bob and I went for a shorter ride today (as he’s flying to L.A. as we speak)… I didn’t like going slower down the hills… and worrying about slipping either. More rain is likely tomorrow. ugh. This is my last week to train before the big ride… so I’d better buck up and do it.
p.s. I shouldn’t talk to ANYBODY when i’m irritable. Note to self.
distance: 16.75
time: 1:11
avg. speed: 14.14
max speed: 29.81
Biked to the Bosley rehearsal again… not exactly training with the stopping at red lights and all… but I guess it’s still the 20th time I’ve got on my road bike.
